Course summary
Chemistry is the study of matter and its interactions. It attempts to answer the big question, ‘What is the world made of?’ It is the search for this answer that makes this subject fascinating. From investigating how one substance can be changed drastically into another, to researching a new wonder drug to save millions of lives, the opportunities that chemistry provides are endless. Chemistry is known as the central science, overlapping with aspects of biology and physics. This subject is challenging, compelling and hugely rewarding. It is well respected by universities and opens doors into a wide variety of related courses, including medicine, engineering and veterinary science. Students will have the opportunity to hone their practical and investigation skills by completing a range of experiments. Students are also encouraged to think deeply about the impact humans are having on our planet. Chemistry can provide solutions to many of the environmental challenges of our time.
