Course summary

Practical Coursework Portfolio • A set of coursework units using a range of techniques, methods, and processes to exploit digital photography and digital image manipulation, and gain an understanding of the use of the camera, composition, lighting, and digital editing. These units will focus on a range of genres such as landscape, portrait, and still life. Unit 2: Trial set task • Candidates select one starting point from an early-release question paper to carry out research and development work before the final outcome. • Up to 15 hours of unaided test to respond to initial investigations. Unit 3a: Practical coursework portfolio (external assessment) • Self-directed practical study based upon a personal interest or concern. To include a final set of photographs with supporting preliminary sets. Unit 3b: Written essay (external assessment) • A written essay of at least 1000 words on a chosen photography theme. Unit 4: Set task (external assessment) • Candidates select one starting point from an early-release question paper to carry out research and development work before the final outcome. • Up to 15 hours of unaided test to respond to initial investigations through a finished piece. Units will be tailored to individual learning needs and personal interests. Skills-based workshops will be taught in order to inform personal development and independent study. Students will be expected to research and write about various photographers and genres throughout the course.
