Course summary

Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour. The A Level Psychology will act as a bridge between GCSE and university. The course introduces you to the research skills you will need to conduct your own psychological research by giving you practical experience of conducting mini investigations into human behaviour. As part of this you will learn five inferential statistical tests that can be used to analyse data collected into human behaviour. Aside from learning how to conduct research yourself, you will also study twenty pieces of existing research in five different areas: Social, Biological, Cognitive, Developmental and Individual Differences. Topics studied include; autism, eye witness testimony, how children learn aggressive behaviour, functions of the brain and the language of psychopaths, to name a few. For each piece of research you will address seven different debates such as psychology as a science and nature vs nurture. Finally, you will consider some applied areas in Psychology such as Issues in Mental Health, Criminal Psychology and Sport and Exercise Psychology. These topics are very essay based and will help you to develop the quality of your written communication.
