Course summary
You would be suitable for this course if you are interested in broadening and deepening your knowledge of Mathematics beyond the A-Level Mathematics syllabus. It is particularly useful for students wishing to study Mathematics, Physics or Engineering at degree level or in work-based study, as well as many other maths-related subjects. This course combines well with further study or work in areas such as Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Business, Economics and Psychology. Further Maths is essential for many Mathematics degree courses and some Science and Engineering courses. Initially students will be entered onto the AS course as a 4th subject with possibility of progressing onto the full A-Level course in Year 13. Core Pure Maths topics include: Extending the Pure Maths content of the Maths A Level: also includes complex numbers, matrices, infinite series expansions, hyperbolic functions and differential equations. Further Mechanics topics include: Extending the Mechanics content of the Maths A Level: forces and Newton’s laws, moments, work-energy-power, centre of mass and dimensional analysis. Further Statistics topics include: Extending the Statistics content of the Maths A Level: further statistical sampling, data interpretation, probability, distributions, hypothesis testing.
