Course summary

Ideal for students intending to pursue any career for which an understanding of the human body is desirable and for those with a passion for Sport. Course Content: Over the two years, A Level PE students will study a range of topics within PE. The course is split into 5 components. Component 1- Physical Factors affecting Performance. This is where students will learn about applied anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics. Component 2 - Psychological Factors affecting Performance. This is where students will learn about skill acquisition and sports psychology. Component 3 - Social-Cultural issues in Physical Activity and Sport. This is where students will learn about Sport and society and Contemporary Issues in Physical Activity and Sport. Component 5 - Practical Sport Performance. This is where students will focus on 1 sport and perform either practically or coach that Sport. Component 6 - Evaluating and Analysing Performance for Improvement. This is where students will watch a performance and comment on how they can improve using knowledge from the other components. Progression: Students progress to sports related degrees or directly to employment in the sport and leisure industry. Career options include Coaching, Fitness Training, Osteopathy, PE Teaching, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Sports Development Officer, Sports Therapy.
