Course summary

A Level Mathematics (Pearson Edexcel) A Level Mathematics is a Level 3 qualification that develops strong problem-solving, logical reasoning, and analytical skills — all highly valued in further study and employment. The course builds on key topics from GCSE such as algebra, trigonometry, and probability, while also introducing exciting new areas including calculus, logarithms, and hypothesis testing. The course is divided into three compulsory sections: Pure Mathematics – develops your understanding of core mathematical principles such as algebra, geometry, and calculus. Mechanics – explores the mathematics of motion and forces, applying maths to real-world physical problems. Statistics – teaches you how to collect, analyse, and interpret data, including using probability and hypothesis testing. Assessment: Assessment is through three written exam papers at the end of Year 13, each testing your understanding of the pure, mechanics, and statistics content. A Level Maths is an essential subject for many university courses and careers, particularly in engineering, computer science, physics, economics, finance, and data analysis.
