Course summary
You would be suitable for this course if you have a keen enthusiastic approach to design, are willing to learn new skills and techniques and accept nothing is impossible. You will need to have an inquisitive mind and want to work out how and why products are made. It is essential to have a good work ethic and the ability to work to deadlines. Technical principles topics include: Materials and their characteristics, Modern industrial and commercial practice, Digital design and manufacture, Health and safety, Protecting designs, Intellectual property, Enterprise and marketing, and Design communication For the Non-Examination Assessment unit, students identify a design opportunity or problem from a context of their own choice, and create a portfolio of evidence in real time through the project to demonstrate their competence. Evidence can be either a written or digital design portfolio that includes photographic evidence of a final prototype.
