Course summary
You would be suitable for this course if you are interested in taking GCSE Mathematics topics in more depth and drawing upon a range of techniques to solve more difficult and unstructured problems. There is a focus on Algebra throughout the course and it is vital you are strong in this aspect to be successful. The course also introduces new areas of mathematics and uses applications to model and solve ‘real world’ situations. This course combines well with further study or work in areas such as Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Business, Economics and Psychology. Pure Maths topics include: Proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, integration, numerical methods, vectors. Mechanics topics include: Kinematics, forces and Newton’s laws, moments. Statistics topics include: Statistical sampling, data interpretation, probability, distributions, hypothesis testing.
