Course summary

This course is designed to complement a choice of two other A Levels or BTECS and offers a rounded education in the Performing Arts with a focus on working in the industry, the creation of new works alongside developing your own discipline from a choice of Musical Theatre, Acting and Dance or a mixture of all three. This course can lead on to further specialist training in the Performing Arts either at university or conservatoire, or alternatively the skills developed through the course will support a wide range of alternative degrees at university. Course content Investigating Practitioners Work - This core unit focusses on the study of significant practitioners in the performing arts such as Stanislavski, Fosse and Lin Manuel-Miranda, as well as developing your research and academic writing skills. Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performances - This unit allows students to develop their skills in a chosen discipline and is assessed through professional end of unit showcase in our theatre. Performing Arts in the Community - In this unit we look at the history and impact of community arts from the mid C20th to the present day, as well as taking a devised production on tour to local and regional community venues. Group Performance Workshop - In this devising unit, students work together to create their own performance. Optional Modules include Musical Theatre Techniques, Contemporary Dance Technique, Singing Techniques for performers, amongst others, but these are chosen in conjunction with the students.
