Course summary

The course covers a wide range of units some are mandatory units such as Building Positive Relationships in Health and Social Care which examines different methods of communication used by practitioners and requires students to participate in an assessed role play. The Anatomy and Physiology unit requires students to study some of the major organ systems within the human body and to appreciate how these systems may be affected by disorders such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis. There are also a wide range of optional units to choose from and the exact units studied depends upon both the expertise of the teachers involved and the interests of the students. We always cover a broad range of units so that students gain a wide understanding and are well prepared for academic studies at university. All students attend a work experience placement for one afternoon per week throughout Year 12. Where possible students will be provided with opportunities to meet and discuss the role of practitioners who work within the sector.
