Art and Design (Fine Art)
Course summary
The key skills for all artists to develop are those of observing and recording, together with the discovery and experimentation of techniques and materials. Practical skills are often cited by students as the most important aspect of the course. However, of equal value are the analytical, conceptual, creative and project management skills that are inherently linked to success in this subject. The work involves observation, recording with materials, researching the work of artists and the production of a final piece. The sketchpad, the camera and the work journal are all used constantly. The course begins with a foundation module that allows all students to develop their basic skills. As the course progresses, students are given gradually more independence. In Y13, students select their own coursework brief to reflect their own interests as artists.
