
Student who complete this imaginative and stimulating vocational qualification will get to learn a great deal about the food and nutrition industries, the relationship between food and the human body; students will also learn useful techniques in food preparation and cooking. This qualification would complement learning related to health and social care or sport, where an understanding of nutrition and diets would be useful to care managers and sport fitness instructors. It would also be of relevance to those learners with no prior experience of the content when applied to a vocational context.
If taken, you will be expected to have secured at least a Merit in Level 2 Hospitality and Catering or at least a grade 5 in Food Preparation & Nutrition. In addition, you will be expected to have secured a grade 4 or above in both English Language and Maths, and have secured at least five grade 4s overall in GCSE courses. It is important to note that written communication will be assessed in candidates’ written work in both the coursework and the exam paper.
Students will achieve a Level 3 certificate in year 12 and a level 3 applied diploma in year 13 in Food Science Nutrition. Students will sit 1 exam paper at the end of year 12 and will complete 2 controlled assessments in year 13.
