Course summary

• Year 12 - Unit 1: Changing awareness of crime – (8 hours Controlled Assessment 25%) different types of crime and statistics. We will then assess the role of media in representing crime; campaigns for change will then be compared and you will create your own campaign for change on a social issue related to crime. • Year 12 - Unit 2: Criminological theories – (exam 25%) in this unit, you will learn about the reasons behind criminal behaviour; from biological to social factors, we will be assessing what makes people become criminals. • Year 13 - Unit 3: Crime Scene and Courtroom – (8 hours Controlled Assessment 25%) this will be your chance to understand the investigators’ point of view and learn how forensic evidence is collected; you will also be taught about the processes happening in the courtroom. • Year 13 - Unit 4: Crime and Punishment – (exam 25%) – you will study punishments for crimes and the different ways of dealing with convicted criminals. You will evaluate the effectiveness of each method.
