Course summary

The Computer Science A Level course requires students to take a deep interest in the notion of computational thinking: a mode of thought that goes well beyond software and hardware, and that provides a framework within which to reason about systems and problems. Students learn how to think in a computational way and apply their knowledge of programming in a range of languages to solve problems. Fundamental concepts such as the function of the CPU, the representation of data and the properties of hardware and software are also studied in depth. This course, with its emphasis on abstract thinking, general problem solving, algorithmic and mathematical reasoning, and scientific and engineering-based thinking, is a good foundation for further study in Computer Science and students often go on to studies in Law, Business, Engineering and wider Science disciplines including Medicine.
