AAQ BTEC National in Applied Science (Extended Certificate)

Course summary

This course is taught with Yr 12 and Yr 13 students in one class. It will be in EITHER Block A or B. This is to be decided when numbers are confirmed. For anyone who sees their future career in Science the Applied Science qualification is an excellent starting point. It covers a wide range of topics across biology, chemistry and physics and will allow you to acquire a high level of practical laboratory skills from which the theory is then drawn. In order to be successful on this course you should enjoy and be good at working independently, meeting deadlines, solving problems, and extracting information from new sources. There are five units to complete over a period of 2 years these include: • Unit 1 Principles and Applications of Biology • Unit 1 Principles and Applications of Chemistry • Unit 3 Principles and Applications of Physics Then two of the following optional units: • Unit 4 Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques • Unit 5 Science Investigation Skills • Unit 6 Contemporary Issues in Science The course provides the opportunity to gain knowledge understanding and skills for those who wish to work in health care or other science related industries. It also enables progress to a degree or higher education studies in applied science, environmental science, forensic science, sport science, physiotherapy, or health care. It is not suitable for those wishing to study medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, pure science or similar degrees.
