Assessment

There are two exam sessions, in January and May, students can sit exams in Year 12 and Year 13 and have the opportunity to resit exams. All coursework units have 24 Assessment Criteria, divided into 4 set tasks. To achieve a Distinction, students will need to successfully complete 20/24 Criteria; for a Merit, they will need 15 successfully completed; and for a Pass, 10 successfully completed. All research for these tasks can be done in the student’s own time - as homework or during Study periods - but the final typing up of each set task must be supervised in school during a set amount of time (approx. 15 hours). Without putting in this extra time researching topics and making notes to complete the assignments, the higher grades cannot be achieved. All topics need to be backed up by fact-based evidence and statistics, clearly referenced with footnotes, which is excellent practice for university courses.
