A level Mathematics continues to develop the topics studies at GCSE Mathematics, and introduces methods and techniques used in many subjects at university level and beyond. The course covers a range of pure and applied mathematics, including mechanics and statistics. Mathematics is also an interesting subject to study for its own sake. The skills developed through studying this subject to a higher level are also highly sought after by employers. The breakdown of the course is as follows: Pure Mathematics . Topics include proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation integration and vectors. Pure Mathematics 2 . Further techniques involving proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, sequences and series, trigonometry and integration as well as an introduction to numerical methods. Statistics and Mechanics . Section A: statistics - sampling, data presentation and interpretation, probability, distributions, hypothesis testing. . Section B: mechanics - quantities and units in Mechanics, Kinematics, Forces and Newton's Laws, Moments.
