Course summary

English Literature, A Level's historicist approach to studying literature, is a journey of independent exploration. It rests upon reading texts within a shared context, believing that no text exists in isolation. Each text is considered the product of the time in which it was produced. This approach encourages you to explore the relationships between texts and the contexts within which they are written, received and understood. Studying texts within a shared context enables you to investigate and connect them, drawing out patterns of similarity and difference using various reading strategies and perspectives. English Literature A Level prioritises making autonomous meaning, empowering you to debate and challenge the interpretations of other readers as you develop your own informed personal responses.
