Course summary
Unit 1 Films from early cinema history, including silent movies; and a variety of global films Unit 2 A variety of films will be covered including: American and British cinema; documentary and world cinema Unit 3 The practical element of the course will involve producing a screenplay and storyboard for an original film Film is a popular, cultural medium and has been influential for over 100 years. A film studies course allows students to investigate the reasons behind film’s popularity and influence on modern society. A major focus of the course is on the craftsmanship of film, and cinematography, lighting and narrative structure will feature. There is a high emphasis on responding to these through written essays and students must be prepared to continue to develop their English and communication skills alongside the study of the texts.
