Course summary

A Level Photography is designed to help you see the world in a different way and to experiment with ways to express your unique perspective of the world around you. Photography is not just taking a snapshot of what is in front of you, but concerns thinking about and communicating ideas that you have about society and culture. A question you will often get asked is “what do you want to say through your images?” and it is this question which you will explore throughout your studies. You will experiment with a variety of techniques to create images that make a personal statement about things that interest, inspire and concern you, and look at various photographic styles such as portraiture, fashion, street, experimental imagery, and many more. You will also research the work of a wide variety of artists working within the fields of photography and video art, and through close analysis this will provide you the appropriate skills and knowledge to implement that into your own practice. The course promotes and stimulates creativity, experimentation, and personal expression, allowing you to produce work that suits your style and interests through lens-based media – not only photography, but also video and animation.
