Course summary

A Level Mathematics is one of the most highly valued qualifications, respected by both by universities and employers. It develops logical thinking, problem-solving ability and the capacity to analyse complex situations. These are skills that are essential across a wide range of fields. For those studying Physics or Chemistry at A Level, Mathematics is highly recommended, as it supports important key skills and understanding for both subjects. A capacity for sustained and independent work is also key to success. The A Level at Skinners’ follows a linear specification, assessed solely by examinations at the end of the course. All A Level Mathematics courses now share the same content: two-thirds pure mathematics, one-sixth statistics and one-sixth mechanics. Pure mathematics extends your knowledge of algebra, trigonometry and calculus, while statistics develops your ability to interpret and test data, and mechanics applies mathematics to the physical world. Mathematics is an excellent foundation for higher education in subjects such as sciences, computing, engineering, economics, finance, accountancy, geography, psychology, sociology, and medicine, as well as for careers requiring analytical, data handling, and quantitative skills.
