The start of Year 12 is workshop based, introducing students to a range of Graphics and Photography skills. Students will develop specific knowledge of logos, brand design, using the photography studio and dark-room and digital manipulation. Following this investigative period students will work on a set project developing more personal work and considering their chosen pathway. For the coursework component, students will complete a Personal Investigation of an idea, issue, concept, or theme of their own choice. In Year 13 students will work on a practical exam project which has been set by the exam board. Both Component 1 and 2 are assessed against four assessment objectives: • AO1: Develop ideas through investigations informed by contextual and other sources. • AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, materials, techniques, and processes. • AO3: Record idea and observations, reflecting critically on work and progress. • AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions.
Minimum 5 in GCSE Graphic Design, GCSE photography or related course For all subjects a GCSE in the chosen area is an advantage and provides good foundational knowledge and skills. More importantly, you must enjoy the subject; you should be motivated to do well, want to work hard and have a keen interest in studying around the subject, independently. Our entry requirements provide insight into the required academic level to be successful at this course. However, please speak to us if you are interested in studying this subject and have concerns that you do not have a GCSE in this area or have concerns that you may not achieve the entry level required. Our team can be contacted on wrensix@wren.excalibur.org.uk.
Component 1 - Personal Investigation (60% of overall outcome). Component 2 – Externally set assignment (40% of overall outcome).
