Why choose this subject? Contemporary politics is fast-moving and often controversial. Studying Politics at A Level gives you the opportunity to explore the key ideas that shape political parties and leaders, both in the UK and the US. You will learn how governments work and examine the major political theories that influence decision-making. What will I study? In year one the course focuses on UK government and politics, including the role of Parliament, the Prime Minister, and the judiciary. In year two, the focus shifts to the US political system and key political ideologies such as liberalism, conservatism, socialism, and feminism. You’ll also analyse recent elections and current issues, from the rise of new parties like the Greens and Reform UK to the nature of the Trump presidency. Where can this subject take me? Politics is an excellent choice for students interested in careers in law, business, journalism, or the civil service.
