A Level Photography is a Level 3 qualification that encourages creativity, experimentation, and personal expression through visual imagery. You’ll explore a wide range of photographic techniques and media — from traditional darkroom methods to modern digital processes — while developing your technical skills and artistic confidence. Students learn how to plan, shoot, edit, and present photographic work, exploring themes such as portraiture, landscape, still life, documentary, and experimental image-making. You’ll also study the work of influential photographers and artists to help develop your own creative style and understanding of visual communication. Assessment: Assessment is based on two components: A personal investigation, where you produce a portfolio of work on a theme of your choice supported by a written study. An externally set assignment, where you respond to a given theme through a practical project completed under exam conditions. Location: A Level Photography is delivered at our sister site, UTC Sheffield City Centre. Timetables are carefully structured to include travel time between sites, allowing students to take Photography alongside other subjects based at UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. This course provides excellent preparation for further study or careers in photography, media, film, advertising, visual communication, and other creative industries, and helps you build a strong personal portfolio for university or employment.
