Assessment

The course is broken down into three parts. From September until February of Year 12, you will be taught new ways to record and experiment through a number of exciting workshop style lessons. This will encourage you to ‘think outside the box’, try new ways of working and enhance your skills. Following this, you will be fully prepared for the assessed aspects of the course, Component 1 and Component 2. Component 1 is called a personal investigation and is worth 60% of the A level grade. This is a major in-depth critical, practical and theoretical investigative project/portfolio and outcome/s which are based on a subject matter or theme of your own personal choice. Component 2 is an externally set assignment and is worth 40% of the A level grade. You will start this in February of Year 13. This involves working to a starting point set by the exam board and completing a final, personal response during 15 hours of supervised time (this will be across 3 days).
