Assessment

Component 1: Performing coursework – a performance consisting of a minimum of either two/three pieces. At least one of these pieces must be as a soloist and one as part of an ensemble. Performance standard required is Grade 6 in a reputable examination (ABRSM, Rock School, Trinity etc.) Component 2: Composing coursework – two/three compositions consisting of one that reflects the musical techniques/conventions associated with the Western Classical Tradition, one that is in response to a brief set by Eduqas and one in response to an area of study (dependant on which option is selected). Students are able to specialise in either performing or composing with the following options: Option A – 35% Performing and 25% Composition or Option B – 35% Composing and 25% Performing. Component 3: Appraising (40%) – 2hr 15 minute written/listening examination. The paper will be based on three areas of study, including 4 set works. Styles of questions include: listening questions using skeleton scores, dictation and extended response through longer essay questions. Total: 100 marks.
