The Further Mathematics course is a challenging and rewarding course for those students who excel in Mathematics. The course allows students to explore sophisticated concepts and approaches that pave the way for a smooth transition into degree Mathematics. Students wishing to take Mathematics, Engineering, Computing, Sciences, Finance or Economics at degree level would benefit enormously from taking this course.
5 GCSE grades 4-9, including English Language. GCSE Maths Grade 8 or above.
Further Maths does not always mean harder Maths. Because it counts as two A’ levels, students will generally do a broader range of topics. Students will cover topics including Complex Numbers, Matrices, Differential Equations and Polar Coordinates as well as studying Mechanics and Statistics in more detail. All students will sit four examinations at the end of the second year: Paper 1: Core Pure Mathematics 1 Paper 2: Core Pure Mathematics 2 Paper 3: Further Statistics 1 Paper 4: Further Mechanics 1 Each paper is 1hour 30 minutes and worth 25% of the qualification.
