Course summary

Mathematics is a fascinating subject that provides a gateway to much of the world around us and the future of mankind. The knowledge gained by studying A’ level Mathematics provides building blocks for science, technology and finance. Mathematics is one of the main facilitating subjects for study at university and is highly regarded for entry into Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Law and Economics. As well as the benefits to further study, it is recognised that taking STEM subjects at A’ level provides greater career opportunities, as well as leading to jobs with higher salaries.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades 4-9, including English Language. Maths grade 7.

How you'll be assessed

Students will continue to study the algebra and number topics from GCSE as well as some geometry. All students will also study mechanics and statistics topics, including hypothesis testing, kinematics and Newton’s laws of motion (amongst others). All students will sit three examinations at the end of Year 13: Paper 1: Pure Mathematics 1 Paper 2: Pure Mathematics 2 Paper 3: Statistics and Mechanics Each paper is 2 hours and worth 33.33% of the qualification.
