Course summary

Who does the house work? What causes inequality in society? Why do people commit crimes? How do we know how to behave? What does the word family mean today? How do researchers gather information? Are you interested in any of the above questions? Yes? Then Sociology might be for you! You do not need any previous knowledge of Sociology: It is vital, however, that you have good literacy skills. Sociology prepares you for a lifetime of change by developing your appreciation of diversity, love of learning, writing and study skills, as well as developing an in-depth understanding of human behaviour, social organisation, culture, and social change. Sociology helps us look more objectively at our society and other societies. It directs attention to how the parts of society fit together and change, and the consequences of that social change. If you are the type of person who doesn't necessarily follow the crowds (but are fascinated by their behaviour), the type who is truly interested in what is going on in the world, then Sociology is the subject for you. Course Details Students will study five components that are externally assessed, these are: • Education with Methods in context • Research Methods and Topics in Sociology (Families and Households) • Education with Theory and Methods (Laws and Education) • Topics of Sociology (Families and Households and Beliefs in Society) • Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods
