Course summary

If you’re passionate about sport and want a course that matches your ambition and curiosity, this is where your journey begins. Unlike traditional A-Levels, which are predominantly exam-based, this qualification lets you apply your learning to real-world sporting contexts, with assignments that test your understanding through practical tasks, presentations, written reports and externally assessed projects. Across two years, you’ll complete a dynamic mix of units that develop your understanding of performance, leadership, coaching and the wider sports industry. Core units include: Unit 1 - Anatomy and Physiology Understand how the body’s systems work together to support performance, training and recovery. Unit 6 - Sports Psychology Examine how motivation, confidence and mental preparation affect performance and behaviour in sport. Unit 8 - Coaching for Performance Learn how to plan, deliver and review coaching sessions that maximise athlete development. Unit 17 - Sports Injury Management Understand how to prevent, treat and rehabilitate sports injuries effectively. Unit 23 - Skill Acquisition in Sport Learn how athletes acquire, refine and apply skills through practice, feedback and coaching. Unit 25 - Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport Apply the laws of the game and gain insight into officiating as a professional pathway. Assessments are a blend of: External Exams (set and marked by Pearson) in key scientific and vocational units. Internal Assignments (marked by your teacher) that include practical demonstrations, reports, video evidence and presentations that mirror real sports industry practice.
