Course summary

Computers are widely used in all aspects of our professional and personal lives. In this increasingly technological age, the study of Computer Science and particularly how computers are used in the solution of problems, is an essential skill. This course emphasises how a computer works and computational thinking (problem solving) is an important life skill. Computer Science is a highly academic subject which demands both logical understanding and creativity in order to design, write, test and debug computer applications. You will develop an understanding of how computational thinking can be applied to most problems, through developing algorithms and applications in a high-level language. During your time on the course you will develop skills on how to implement networks within industry while looking into current issues surrounding Computer Science such as legal, moral, cultural and ethical issues. Through Cleeve’s CyberFirst links students can discuss and work alongside with existing professionals to look further into jobs within Computer Science. An enthusiasm to code, logical thinking and problem solving is essential.
