Course summary

This course enables students to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of Fine Art through drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and multimedia approaches. They will visit exhibitions and experience workshops, such as lifedrawing, run by practising artists. Students should choose this course if they are committed to developing their practical skills in a range of disciplines and approaches including analytical observation and more experimental work. They need to be able to develop independent ideas. The first term incorporates teacher led mini-projects to help build up the students’ skills portfolio. They will explore a range of skills using the genres of still life, landscape, portraiture and conceptual art. They will then begin developing independent themes and approaches for their ‘Personal Investigation’ project. Students will learn to research and understand the approaches of other artists, context and times in which pieces are produced.
