GCSE Psychology
Course summary
Psychology encourages students to be inspired, moved and changed by following a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study and to gain an insight into related sectors, such as science. At an introductory level, students are provided with a sound understanding of key methods and approaches in psychology across various topic areas that represent the Core areas of social, cognitive, developmental, biological and individual differences. Within the course students engage in the process of psychological enquiry, to develop as effective and independent students and as critical and reflective thinkers. Students develop an awareness of why psychology matters and acquire knowledge and understanding of how psychology works and its essential role in society; in particular by understanding the contribution of psychology to individual, social and cultural diversity. Additionally, students develop an understanding of the relationship between psychology and social, cultural, scientific and contemporary issues and its impact on everyday life, whilst developing an understanding of ethical issues in psychology. By studying psychology at GCSE, students will be able to apply their knowledge to their own studies to help them question how do we learn as humans. At GCSE, the AQA specification is followed which allows students to make a smooth transition onto the AQA A Level Psychology course.
