Geography

Course summary
Geography will excite the mind, challenge perceptions and stimulate investigative and analytical skills. It aims to encourage you to develop a range of essential skills for Higher Education and the world of work through content which is relevant to any citizen of the planet in the 21st century. Through exciting topics you will continue to explore the nature of physical and human geography with an equal amount of content in each, as well as a field work investigation contributing 20%. Fieldwork and exposure to different places is a fundamental element of A Level Geography - there’s numerous local fieldwork investigations and, where possible, we try to organise a trip abroad to provide you with a memorable and enriching educational experience that enhances your understanding of geographical concepts, fosters personal growth, and inspires a lifelong appreciation for the natural world. For example, previous trips abroad have included Iceland to look at the volcanic features and Sicily with a trip up (an erupting) Mount Etna. We endeavour to make the learning at A Level as engaging as possible so we try to include as much field work as we can but also in the classroom we encourage the use of debates and presentations. You will also have the opportunity to work in groups as well as individually. A Level Geography is a highly respected qualification not only for its academic nature but also its delivery of skills and current subject knowledge relevant to the world of today. As such it is a desirable qualification for any course you might take at university.
