Course summary

If reading feeds the soul then watching and studying films quenches its thirst. Film Studies is for those with a keen interest in films; not just the Hollywood blockbusters, but also a desire to learn about films from around the globe. Be it independent or experimental, documentaries or silent, you will build up a diverse understanding of films in all their glory. With an eye for exploring and examining the key elements of film form, including cinematography, editing and sound, your new skills will prepare you for further study at degree level. We will be studying some of the most critically acclaimed films of all time, spanning generations from Casablanca in the early Hollywood era, to modern British classics like Trainspotting and This is England. With an option of producing a screenplay or a five minute short film, we could be producing the next generation of film greats – you! Students at The Reach Free School attain excellent results in this subject. In 100% of students achieved A* to C, with 83% achieving A* to B.
