Course summary

Economics examines all aspects of microeconomic and macroeconomic issues which have become increasingly high profile in recent years. The financial crisis, bankers’ bonuses and fears about Brexit are just three topics rarely out of the news agenda, throwing a light on the importance of and divisions within the discipline. The course will certainly get students thinking from different view points. Students will explore current economic controversies and the disagreements between economists in a way that will help them to understand the facts behind the headlines. Students will be encouraged to develop a critical approach to economic models and methods of inquiry. They should have good knowledge of developments in the UK economy and government policies over the past 15 years and a knowledge of current affairs. Course Content Paper 1: Markets and market failure Paper 2: National and international economy Paper 3: Economic principles and issues
