Assessment
Year 12 comprises of studying a range of optional units. During the first month of the course, students will have the opportunity to look at and select (with Tutor support) units that are suitable to their ability and future plans. The majority of units studied will focus on musical performance. However, there may also be opportunities for pupils to select an optional unit that focuses on a strand of music technology. There are a total of 86 optional units to choose from, so this course offers lots of opportunities. An idea of optional units that can be selected in Year 12 to study are: • Auditioning for Music • Improving Instrumental Performance • Music Dissertation • Development of Music Sequencing • Using a Digital Audio Workstation • Live Sound Engineering • Lighting for Music Events • Composing Music • Listening to Music • Understanding Musical Styles The main focus of Year 13 is completing the core, externally assessed units, that allow students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learnt during Year 12. The two units complete din Year 13 are: • Rehearsal Skills & Live Music Performance • Planning for a Career in Music With internal assessment within the qualification, learners will be given opportunities to: • Write up the findings of their own research • Use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations • Carry out projects for which they have choice over the direction and outcomes • Demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate techniques and processes
