Sixth Form Induction Day

July 7, 2026

08:30 AM - 03:00 PM

Colton Hills Community School

At Colton Hills Sixth Form, we want to make the transition between GCSE and A-Level's or Level 3 BTECs as smooth as possible through our Year 12 Induction Programme. We give you the opportunity to sample a range of courses and get a feel for whether or not they would be right for you. That might be the opportunity to try something completely new that is not offered at GCSE such as Economics or Psychology, or to learn about the differences between Year 11 and Year 12 lessons in subjects you already know and enjoy. What do you get from it? The opportunity to try out different subjects to see what best suits you. Talk to the teachers and find out what is involved in the course. A chance to get a feel for life in the Sixth Form. What do we get from it? We find out how many students are interested in each subject and that helps us plan for the new school year. We can determine how we can best support you over the next two years, ensuring you have the best opportunities possible. How can I show that I'm ready for Sixth Form?As part of your journey into the Sixth Form, you will be expected to show your commitment by completing a series of activities known as the 'Induction Trio'. As a part of this process, you will complete the following three activities: The Induction Assignments: Each subject you intend to study in Y12 will have a subject specific activity for you to complete. (Deadline Friday 11th September 2026)The Induction Tasks: A series of short form general tasks to determine your transferable skills. (Deadline Friday 17th July 2026, 3 tasks total) The Induction Assessment: Completed in lesson in the first few weeks of Y12 in each of your subjects. The work you complete will be relevant to your studies when you begin in September and will help you develop a foundation of understanding from which you can build upon. Each piece of work that you will be set is designed to get you thinking in the way of an A-Level or BTEC Level 3 student. You will have the entire summer to complete most of the work, which must be submitted using the links that will be shared on teams/the Sixth Form webpage, by the 11th of September. Once school starts, you will jump straight into learning core content that you will then be tested on as part of the Induction Assessment. Completing each of these duties will demonstrate your absolute dedication to your studies, helping you reach your maximum potential, preparing you for the world beyond education.Join us on Tuesday 7th of July to find out more about our courses, so you can familiarise yourself with what you would like to study in September, and get a feel for what it means to be part of our Sixth Form. For more information about what our Sixth Form has to offer, visit our website: https://www.coltonhills.co.uk/sixthform (Please note that this event is only for students who are currently aged between 15 &16 years old and have undertaken their first sitting of their GCSE examinations during the summer of 2026, parents are unable to attend but are welcome to enquire further by contacting us at SixthForm@coltonhills.co.uk)
