Welcome to Beaucroft Foundation School
The Beaucroft Post-16 department is situated at Beaucroft College which is roughly one mile away from the main school in the heart of Wimborne town. It is equipped to deliver a life-skills and employability based curriculum. The college caters for up to 10 classes of students between the age of fourteen and nineteen. The students generally have severe/complex learning difficulties, vulnerability and/or ASD. Priorities for learning will be determined by individual need and set by the teacher in consultation with the student, parents and other professionals. The college comprises of two main buildings; one building has been designed to cater for our 16 – 19 year old safe learners who are supported to develop their independence and employability skills, and the other area has been designed to cater for our more complex learners aged 14 – 19 who also follow a preparing for adulthood curriculum, but require higher levels of support. The Post-16 curriculum at Beaucroft College provides a student-centred approach to teaching and learning which enables the student to successfully progress through the college and on to their chosen post-19 provision. We provide a well planned programme of activities to help them develop the skills to make informed decisions as best as they can about their future.Over the course of three years the students complete qualifications in life skills and employability at Entry Level 1 – 3 and develop their skills in both Literacy and Numeracy. Where appropriate the students take qualifications at Entry Levels in English and Maths. They learn to develop skills necessary to function to the best of their ability in all aspects of life. Work experience/shadowing, enterprise skills and college links will take place at various times throughout the year. All students will take part in the management and running of our businesses, our ‘Sweet 16’ tuck shop, our arts and crafts business, and at our own 1HQ cafe. This involves, stock taking, serving customers, food hygiene and preparation, money work and making and selling various arts and crafts. Student are encouraged to discuss their aspirations and set their own life (short and long term) goals. Students are expected to take responsibility for the planning and evaluation of some of their own learning activities including enrichment, fitness, leisure, and travel training activities. They are encouraged to be aware of the world around them and the impact it has on their lives. The students also have the opportunity to work towards achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and The Arts Award at Bronze level.
