Welcome Message

Welcome to Hornsea Sixth Form

At Hornsea Sixth Form, we are proud to provide an exceptional environment where ambition is nurtured, individuality is celebrated, and success is achieved. Our aim is simple: to ensure every student leaves us with the confidence, skills, and qualifications to take their next steps in life — wherever their aspirations may lead.

With average class sizes of just eight, our students benefit from an unrivalled level of personalised support and attention. This allows our dedicated teachers to tailor their approach to the individual needs, strengths, and goals of every student. In small, focused classes, learning becomes a genuine dialogue — encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and deeper understanding.

We are delighted to offer over 30 A Level courses, giving students the flexibility to build a programme of study that reflects their interests and ambitions. Whether their passion lies in the sciences, the arts, or the humanities, our broad curriculum ensures there is something for everyone. Alongside academic study, our students have access to a rich variety of enrichment opportunities, leadership roles, and community projects that help develop essential life skills and broaden horizons.

Our Sixth Form has an outstanding record of achievement. In 2025, Hornsea Sixth Form achieved a 100% pass rate, with every single student securing a place at their first-choice university. These results are a testament to the dedication of our students, the expertise of our staff, and the supportive environment we create together.

However, success at Hornsea Sixth Form is not measured by exam results alone. We take pride in developing well-rounded young people who are ready to make a positive impact in the world beyond school. Through guidance, challenge, and encouragement, we help our students grow into confident, independent, and resilient individuals — fully prepared for the demands of higher education and the opportunities of the future.

At Hornsea Sixth Form, every student is known, valued, and supported to reach their potential. I warmly invite you to visit us, meet our students and staff, and experience for yourself the energy, ambition, and sense of community that make our Sixth Form truly special.

The Art, Design & Photography departments were well equipped, with knowledgable and nurturing teachers. They helped give me confidence and aspire to keep studying Art & Design. A trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park was special to me. It was great to see a prestigious art and design space based in Yorkshire. It made me proud to be an aspiring creative coming from the region. I went on to study a Foundation course in Art & Design, specialising in Illustration. This led to a BA in Graphic Design at Liverpool John Moores, where I started to prepare a portfolio for a Masters Degree. I moved to London to start the MA Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art. I also did various graphic design internships at London based galleries, and with Norman Foster’s architecture foundation in Madrid, Spain. This eventually led to my current role as a graphic designer for a global fashion company, working internationally. Everyday I’m grateful for being able to do what I love. It’s very fulfilling to look back on all the studying and see that you can do whatever you put your mind to. Seeing my work on a global scale will always feel special to me.

The support and guidance provided by the teaching staff, their doors were always open. I was also offered personal guidance with my university application to study languages, and support to ensure that my language level was the best that it could be. The absolute highlight was the trip to Cambodia. The volunteering projects and the opportunity to experience such a vastly different culture was a really eye-opening experience for me and one that I will cherish forever. I was given the opportunity to study for a semester in Bilbao, Spain and complete a work placement in North West France. This year allowed me to develop my language skills to a whole new level, and get a real insight into what life would be like living and working abroad.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Here at HSLC Sixth Form, we know that for students to compete, they need the necessary skills for the workplace. Going above and beyond the core curriculum is a great way to develop these skills. All students in Year 12 will participate in Enrichment and these sessions make up part of student timetables.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

This volunteering and activity based award is part of our Enrichment offer for all Sixth Form students, and can be taken alongside your chosen A-Levels. This enrichment encourages students to get involved with their local community and really test their abilities. There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level, and five at Gold. They involve helping the community/environment; becoming fitter; developing new skills; planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity.

Sports Leadership Qualification

Young people undertaking a qualification in Sports Leadership will learn and demonstrate important life skills such as effective communication and organisation whilst learning to lead basic physical activities to younger people, their peers, older generations, and within the community. The courses involve both guided & peer-to-peer learning and supervised leadership to ensure that learners have all the skills they need to lead basic physical activities for other people.

Professional Adobe Qualification

The qualification is offered as one of our Enrichment courses. It is a complementary opportunity for those students who are studying Art, Media, Photography, and Creative Media.
