Extra-curricular
Extra-curricular is a key part of the students’ education. It is often where the students can gain self-confidence, build relationships and furthermore it is a fantastic way to inspire the students and nurture their talents. Every department is expected to provide extra-curricular provision and the students are encouraged to take part in as many activities as they can. So whether a student is a future Olympian or a budding scientist there will be something on offer for all. These extra-curricular clubs can take place before school, during lunch or after school.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
Our vast extra-curricular programme enables students to build on what they have done in lessons and outside of school as well as empowering students to experience new activities for the first time that they may not have been able to do previously. Our department’s commitment to your child is to encourage them to take part in at least one club across the year as well as represent their form, house, or the school in at least one sport. If you click the link below it will take you to our current extra-curricular timetable. This is changed on a termly basis to incorporate as many different clubs as possible throughout the year.
Fixtures
Throughout the year we arrange many different fixtures for the clubs in our extra-curricular programme. We host activities at St Andrew’s and take students to other schools to be able to compete in fixtures and tournaments. There have been A-D team fixtures across a range of different sports to ensure that all students have the opportunity regardless of ability.
Varsity
Our varsity programme has grown over the last few years. It involves taking up to 150 students in one year group out for an afternoon of sport competing against another local school. The aim is to continue to develop this so every year group at KS3 gets the opportunity to take part in a Varsity day once a term.
House Sports
In addition to the busy extra-curriculum programme and fixtures against other schools, St Andrew’s has a thriving house system which sport is an integral part of. Students are encouraged to represent their house, compete alongside friends and get involved in the community ethos. House competitions are done on a half termly basis to allow for maximum competition and for rivalries to be settled.
The best day of the school calendar happens in June/July at the annual Sports Day where every student from Year 7 to Year 10 participates in at least one event for their house. This is always a tight contest between houses and allows students to celebrate sporting successes, have fun as a community and even see their favourite teachers get involved with the events.

Sports Awards
The annual Sports Awards is a chance to recognise and celebrate our students’ achievements from throughout the year. It highlights students who have shown their commitment to the subject and also those who have succeeded at clubs and fixtures, both as individuals and as a team.
Typical awards include: outstanding contribution to a sport, rising stars, players of the year and sports personality for each year group.
Every year we invite a guest speaker from a sporting background to give a talk about their achievements and sporting journey, and the students are always excited to receive their award from them. In previous years we have had, Paralympian’s, Olympians as well as local sports stars to come and celebrate the evening with us.
