Welcome to Skegness Academy

WelcomeAt our Academy, we are committed to supporting every student on their journey toward a happy, successful and fulfilling life. Everything we do, day in and day out, is aimed at achieving this vision. With the start of the new academic year in September 2023, the Skegness Academy embarked on a new chapter. Higher expectations and standards were introduced across all aspects of school life, resulting in a calm and orderly environment where teachers can effectively teach and students can learn. Our students benefit from a rigorous and robust curriculum, delivered through excellent teaching. We emphasise not only knowledge and understanding across all subjects but also essential skills such as respect, politeness, and good manners. Our goal is to prepare students to thrive as 21st century citizens. In addition to learning in the classroom, we offer a wide range of extracurricular activities and organise local and national trips. For example, our students took part in the St Andrews Schools’ Debating Competition in Edinburgh, visited the Houses of Parliament, and had the opportunity to see a live basketball match in Sheffield and ice hockey match in Nottingham. These experiences broaden students’ horizons and enhance both their knowledge and skills. An important part of our daily work is recognising students’ progress and achievements and celebrating improvements with them. In every lesson, students have the opportunity to be the ‘Student of the Lesson’. On ‘Fantastic Friday’, we celebrate both individual and group achievements and improvements. Our pastoral care is exceptional. Our caring and dedicated form tutors maintain daily contact with their tutees and serve as the first point of contact. In addition, the year team provides further guidance and support, ensuring a solution is found to any struggles that students may encounter on their journey through secondary education. Our highly experienced SEND team provides tailored support based on individual students’ needs. We deliver a wide range of interventions to support students in making rapid progress and developing their interpersonal skills. Our SEND hub, located at the heart of the school, features a sensory room where students can regulate their emotions and find support when facing challenges in the classroom. We highly value our role as a school within the community. Our engagement with the community includes visits to residential homes where our students perform, litter picking, and fundraising for charity. Simultaneously, we benefit from local community members coming into school to work with our students. Through all these activities, we teach our students the importance of playing an active role in the community, the benefits of community involvement, and the responsibilities it entails. In summary, the Skegness Academy is changing for the better, and there has never been a more exciting time to join us. We will continue our journey of moving forward rapidly to support every student in getting onto the path to a happy, successful, and fulfilling life.Mr C GissendorfPrincipal
