Extra-curricular

At Keelman’s Way we place a strong emphasis on British Values across our curricula. Students have access to a fantastic range of activities as part of our extended curriculum at Keelman’s Way.
School Council

The school council is made up of pupils from Key Stage 4 and Post 16. The Council meet biweekly on a Thursday for the afternoon session. The Council have been very effective in making changes for the pupils in the school e.g. supplying water coolers, designing and choosing the play ground equipment, interviewing people for positions in school, holding whole school events ‘Blue Monday’ in support of Mental Health and setting up recycling points around the school.

Leisure and Hobbies

Every Friday morning pupils choose from a range of leisure activities. This may involve following an interest within school e.g.: Zumba, cycling, photography, art, massage, personal presentation. Many students also access the local community e.g.: Simonside Climbing Wall, Little Haven Marina, Hiking, Swimming, Multigym, AMF Bowling Alley, Cyclops adapted Cycling, Archery, Diving at Bolden Dive Centre. This creates pathways for students to have active futures.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Pupils in Post 16 have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award which is a nationally recognised accreditation. Pupils complete a number of modules each year culminating in an end of year expedition or residential trip. Pupils volunteer their time in school to assist on community projects , take part in a physical section that increases their levels of activity and develop skills that help to boost their CV or Progress File. 7 pupils recently achieved their Gold Award following an expedition tin Northumberland and residential trip to France.
