Extra-curricular

The Sixth Form at CCHS offers a wealth of extra curricular activities. The majority of these are student led, so not only do the students get the opportunity to take part in these clubs, societies and activities, but they also acquire valuable skills through planning, organising and running them for the benefit of their peers.
Lunchtime Career Talks

Throughout the year we invite a range of speakers, many of them former students, to speak to interested students about their careers. These sessions enable current students to learn about a wide range of professions and career paths and to make informed choices about their own applications for university, for jobs and for apprenticeships.

Competitions

CCHS students regularly participate in competitions to enrich their learning and to enjoy the opportunity to think beyond the boundaries of the curriculum. We really encourage students to enter the many university essay competitions and the Industrial Cadets Gold Award scheme is a regular fixture in our school year. Similarly students interested in the law have the opportunity both to participate in the Bar Mock Trial Competition and to coach younger students in the Magistrates Court Competition.

Wider Study

All students are encouraged and supported in their wider reading. The school’s main library – the John Moore Library – has a huge range of texts available to all and our librarians are skilled in helping students identify appropriate resources to support their thinking and learning. The school subscribes to JSTOR, the world’s leading digital library of academic resources; this is particularly valued by students when they are working on EPQ and NEA essays. We also encourage students to take up the opportunities presented by online resources such as Future Learn and the increasing range of open access courses that can now be accessed at the click of a mouse.
