HomeSchool Profile

Welcome to King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford

WelcomeOur mixed Sixth Form is a well developed and diverse community offering exciting and demanding new challenges that provide important steps in the process of preparing for University and future employment. Each year we welcome over 180 students into Year 12 to pursue a wide variety of Advanced Level courses. Amongst this number there are usually around 50 new entrants to the school. It is a time for developing independence, more responsibility, many freedoms and broadening personal development in a challenging and supportive environment. As the accepted role models for the lower school, it is important for students to engage in a range of extra curricular activities to broaden their experience. Our students are our ambassadors. Many aspects of life in our Sixth Form are never recorded in any Performance Tables, but contribute so much to the personal development of students and to their ability to progress successfully into higher education or employment. All students participate in our core enrichment programme – this includes Games and Community Service. Many Sixth Formers play leading roles in the school’s Prefect and House systems. Many students do much, much more! We expect every student to engage in meeting their own personal challenges, seeking to achieve what is within their extended grasp. The 2021 Ofsted Inspection Report grades KEGS Sixth Form provision as Outstanding. The full report can be viewed here.
