Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award has been running at Farlingaye for a number of years now. Students can start at Bronze level in Year 10 where they undertake a series of activities through the year. Each student is responsible for organising and completing their Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections. Training for the fourth section of expeditions is carried out after school and over a weekend. Following this there are two expeditions in the Suffolk area where students are self-sufficient for two days and one night. On the completion of the Bronze Award students are able to continue to Silver level in year 11. Expeditions are more demanding at this level and this year we are visiting the New Forest and the Peak District National Park to complete their Expedition phase. Once the students are in year 12, they will then have the option to complete their Gold award, training and commitment at this level is much harder with expeditions being held in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Please note, it is helpful to have completed all levels of the award, however it is possible to enter directly into silver or gold with no previous experience. It is essential however, that students who start on a level actually fully complete it before moving onto the next level.
