Welcome to Aylesbury High School

The Sixth Form is the pinnacle of any school. We are immensely proud of our students and equally as proud of our offering here at AHS.Our Sixth Form students are confident, ambitious, independent critical thinkers - as Ofsted notes they ‘[flourish] into well-rounded individuals’ and ‘feel confident and prepared for their next stages of learning.’ Not only this, our students display and develop leadership skills and social responsibility; embodying our values of aspiration, resilience, curiosity and generosity. We are ambitious for our students. We work hard to give them effective opportunities to become those well-rounded individuals. In addition to ‘a meticulously crafted curriculum’, our range of extension studies, and newly expanded Personal Development sessions are crafted to enhance students’ wider skills and knowledge. Critical thinking is at the heart of our curriculum - fundamental to succeed in today’s world. An extensive range of ‘meaningful leadership roles’ is crucial in developing the ‘remarkable independence’ of our students when they leave. Whether a subject ambassador, house captain, cabinet member, sports leader, house event captain, or primary outreach leader, the opportunities are embedded in the day to day running of the school. We ensure students are able to make informed decisions about their next steps. ‘Expert unbiased’ guidance is provided by our dedicated Next Steps and Careers Lead: we boast the most thorough and extensive programme in the area. Finally, we continually strive to improve our offering. Whilst ‘a calm and joyful place’, we recognise the importance of health and wellbeing. Our dedicated Sixth Form wellbeing assistant proactively provides expert support and guidance for all who need it, and our Sixth Form games sessions signal our commitment to a healthy balance. In short, our Sixth Form students are outstanding. Whether they have been with us from Year 7, or from the start of Year 12, they work hard and embrace the opportunities afforded them here at AHS. We are exceptionally proud of them. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need more information about what we can offer you. We look forward to welcoming you. Mr A SkinnerAssistant Head and Director of Sixth Form

We think it is hugely important for students to have a broad curriculum. The vast majority of our students will complete 3 full A Levels and an Extension Study. Students would need to meet our entry requirements of a minimum of 44 points from their best 8 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics with the appropriate grade requirements for each subject you wish to take. Whilst we recommend students opt for 3 A Levels, a student might opt for 4 full A Levels with the option of an additional Extension Study. For 4 A Levels, students would need a minimum of 64 points from their best 8 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics with at least a grade 7 in each of the subjects you wish to take for A Level. Worth bearing in mind the overwhelming majority of university course entry requirements (including the most competitive) will only ask for 3 A Level grades. Our students will choose their A Levels from 24 different subjects (some offered in conjunction with our brother school AGS). In addition, students will select from our list of 10 Extension Studies.
