Welcome to Sexey's School

“Welcome to Sexey’s Sixth”

Sexey’s Sixth is a happy, sociable, inclusive place where lifelong friends are made. We have a ‘melting pot’ of students, including our own Year 11 and a large number of students from other schools, attracted by our smaller class sizes, academic success, and warm welcome. Some students travel from further afield in the UK and abroad and board.

“Sexey’s Sixth provides a structured working environment without stifling individual creativity and initiative. We challenge each of our students to do their best. We know this ethos works, because our students thrive here.”

Harry Cobden

September 2004

Employed

Craig was a Sixth Form student between 2004-06 having completed his GCSEs at King Arthurs School, Wincanton. He was a popular student and played a few games for the school first 11, although by then he had already started his career with the Yeovil Town youth system in 2004. At the start of the 2005–06 season he was awarded a first team contract and had three short-term loan spells in the 2006–07 season with Weston-super-Mare, Taunton Town and Tiverton Town. He made his first team debut for Yeovil Town as a substitute away at Gillingham in the final league match of the 2006–07 season. After making a breakthrough and challenging for the number one right back slot in the 2007–08 season, he became a regular starter during the 2008–09 season. In May 2009, he signed a new 2-year contract with Yeovil Town, and after the current captain was dropped due to injury and poor form, was made captain for the remainder of the season. Despite being offered a new deal at Yeovil, in July 2011 Craig signed for Peterborough United on a three-year deal where he made 112 appearances in all competitions over the three seasons, including winning the Football League Trophy in 2014. In July 2014, he signed a two-year deal with Sheffield United and started as a regular in the side both at centre half and then in his more customary role at right back. In his second season at United, Alcock found match time hard to come by, and as a result joined fellow League One side Doncaster Rovers on a 28-day loan in November 2015. The loan was made permanent in the January 2016 transfer window.

Henry Bomby

September 2005

Employed

Henry comes from a South Devon sailing family and spent 5 years as a boarding pupil at Sexey’s (2002-07) and whilst here he continued to develop his sailing skills and knowledge as a member of Sutton Bingham Sailing Club near Yeovil. After leaving education at the age of 18, Henry set off to sail single handed around Britain, with a view to one day be racing across oceans and around the world as a professional offshore sailor. Since then he has been fortunate enough to work with many great teams all over the world, helping him win the 2011/2012 Artemis Offshore Academy Scholarship. He has taken part in two seasons on the Figaro Circuit, the world’s most competitive solo offshore racing circuit about his boat “Rockfish”. Representatives from school and Sutton Bingham Sailing Club managed to meet up with him during one of his stops in Torbay during the 2014 race. He has spent two years racing onboard MOD-70 trimaran Phaedo 3 (the 7th fastest boat in the world) and in 2017 broke the Transpacific World Speed Sailing Record from the Canaries to Antigua. Henry is now considered to be one of Britain’s most promising young sailors and in 2017 joined the Volvo Ocean Race aboard the United Nations flagged boat “Turn the Tide on Plastic”. With over 30,000 nm under his belt already, he is quickly adding to the total having made his first crossing of the Equator when he sailed on Leg 2 from Lisbon to Cape Town (7,000 nm) and then again on Leg 6 from Hong Kong to New Zealand (6,100 nm). He completed the hardest leg of the race, Leg 7 Auckland to Itajai, Brazil (7,600 nm) which involved his first venture into the southern ocean and a rounding of Cape Horn, which was a lifelong ambition of his. He also completed Leg 8 from Itajai to Newport, USA, but had to sit it out and watch from the side for the remaining legs. TTOP finished the race in 6th place, a great achievement for such a young team. You can read about the 17/18 edition of the race here https://www.volvooceanrace.com Henry has recently become an ‘Ocean Ambassador’ for The National Marine Aquarium and as part of the Turn the Tide on Plastic team, Henry and his crew mates are supporting scientific research by collecting water samples to investigate micro plastics in our oceans – often in parts of the world that are rarely analysed due to their distance from land.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
During the day and between four and eight PM on Monday to Friday our school staff put on a range of extracurricular activities for both day and boarding students. Some of these are designed to provide academic support to students who need a bit of help in organization of their work or getting their homework done, such as S3 Homework Club (a mixture of support and games aimed at improving literacy and numeracy) or GCSE and A Level support. Others are to stretch and support the Gifted and Talented students in the school or to allow students with a particular interest to explore things further. We also encourage and support students with a particular interest to start their own clubs and activities.

Drama

Drama thrives at Sexey’s. By taking part in the Key Stage and Whole School Productions, students grow in creativity and push the boundaries of their imagination. They are conversant with modern theatre practice, attending regular theatre trips to London, Bristol and Yeovil. We welcome touring theatre companies into school for tailored school productions that complement the curriculum.

Music

Music in Sexey’s School is all inclusive – both in style and ability. Our musicians play an active role in the school concerts, services, plays and musicals, and there are a range of clubs available to those who want to try something different. Music represents the school throughout the community by visiting residential homes and carolling at Christmas time.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Sexey’s School is one of the largest providers of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme in the South West. Students from Year 10 onwards are given the opportunity to participate in the scheme at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
