Welcome to Formby High School

Thank you for taking an interest in our Sixth Form. Moving to sixth form is obviously a very important and exciting stage in a young person’s education. It gives you the opportunity to focus your studies on the subjects that you most enjoy and to learn in a different, more independent environment in preparation for your next steps, whether into university or the workplace.

At Formby High School we have a thriving sixth form community of over 200 students.  Many of our students have been with us since Year 7 and have chosen to make the natural progression to our Sixth Form after successfully completing their GCSEs and we are always pleased to welcome students from other schools, with a significant number joining our us from around the region each year.  We pride ourselves on the level of care and support we provide to each individual, taking time to get to know our students interests, needs and aspirations and we know that this highly personal approach, together with the warm and welcoming atmosphere in our Sixth Form, is a major reason why many students choose Formby High School Sixth Form over larger colleges in the region.

We offer a broad and exciting curriculum. Students are able to choose from a range of academic and vocational qualifications, with different pathways to follow depending on their interests and needs.  We offer over 20 A Level subjects and numerous Level 3 vocational courses and, unlike some colleges, we are able to offer students the opportunity to study a combination of A-Level and vocational courses so that they can tailor their curriculum to suit them.

Our A Level and vocational results have, for many years, been amongst the best in the region.  Students leave our Sixth Form with these excellent results for a number of reasons. They receive high quality teaching in small classes by subject specialists, many of whom they already know and trust from their time in school. In addition, we set challenging targets and closely monitor students’ progress towards them, stepping in with support and guidance when needed to keep them on track. Our success is also testament to the hard-working nature of our students, the commitment of their teachers and the purposeful and scholarly ethos we maintain.

In addition to our academic curriculum, we place great importance on providing a comprehensive programme of enrichment opportunities to support the wider development of students and help distinguish them as well informed, knowledgeable young people with the right values and aspirations.

Our careers guidance and advice is exceptional, helping our students to make the right choices regarding post-18 progression.  Each year, our students progress to the country’s best universities to pursue a variety of courses from Medicine to Music and Engineering to English Literature. In recent years we have also seen several students secure prestigious apprenticeships with major international corporations.

Please take a look at the information shared on our website and in our digital prospectus. We encourage you to find out as much as you can about what we have to offer, and warmly invite you to attend our Open Evening and other information events, or you can always contact our Sixth Form team to arrange a personal tour.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
We are very proud to offer a rich and diverse extra-curricular programme which is designed to support students to achieve more than just academic success. We aim to develop young adults who are not only well qualified but, more importantly, are well-informed, articulate, caring and thoughtful citizens. Our FHSBACC programme, endorsed by the University of Liverpool, seeks to recognise and reward academic achievement and commitment to enrichment activities across two years. As part of this, students in Year 12 and 13 have a timetabled enrichment session on alternate Wednesday afternoons that is designed to develop a range of skills and provide a broad experience. Students can opt to enrol on one of a number of specialist enrichment programmes at the start of the school year.
