FAQs

What if I do not have or am not taking GCSEs as I am studying or have studied overseas?

Overseas students without GCSE predicted or actual grades will not be able to apply via the main portal. For academic qualification they will need a Statement of Comparability and students may also be asked to complete some entry tests onsite at FPSS before completing the enrolment process. The Statement of Comparability compares overseas qualifications to the UK education system, comparing them to UK qualifications and framework levels. Applications will need to be completed before the closing date of 8am 8th January 2025.

Do you hold a waitlist for late applicants?

No, once the admissions portal closes on Wednesday 8th January 2025 we will not re-open and do not hold any waitlists. Late applicants are welcome to come to the school in person after 2pm on GCSE results day 21st August 2025 with copies of GCSE results and any other required documentation. Please check our website after 10th July for instructions as we will also have an online late application to be completed.

Do you re-open applications if we miss the deadline.

I have an EHCP, can I apply directly to the school via the portal?

If you have an EHCP, your application to the Sixth Form will not be able to proceed until a consultation from the local authority has been received and responded to by the Inclusion team at Furze Platt Senior School. If the school feel that they are able to meet your special educational needs, then the application will then proceed in line with the usual process.

What if my actual grades are different from my predicted grades?

Conditional offers are based on predicted grades which we know may change over Year 11 and so we may be able to amend offer subjects prior to Taster Days. Final places in the Sixth Form will only be offered based on actual grades on GCSE results day. If an applicant’s GCSE grades mean that they do not meet the entry requirements for a subject they have chosen we will try to offer them an alternative. However, it may mean that we are unable to accept them into the Sixth Form. Students may change their subject choices if they meet each subject minimum requirement and if timetabling allows, If a course is oversubscribed there may be waitlists.

Where can I find more information.

There is lots of information on our website https://www.furzeplatt.com or feel free to email us on sixthform.admin@furzeplatt.com or call in term-time on 01628 625308.
